Hello Dolly

This is not just a plugin, it symbolizes the hope and enthusiasm of an entire generation summed up in two words sung most famously by Louis Armstrong: Hello, Dolly. When activated you will randomly see a lyric from Hello, Dolly in the upper right of your admin screen on every page.

Simple Starter Plugin

Glad this is in the default installation. It’s easy to uninstall if you don’t want it. Also a simple plugin to help new to WordPress developers see how plugins are built.

Doesn’t serve its intended purpose well

I think this plugin needs to be removed from the core installation, or at least have an option during installation to omit it, Akismet, and the sample page, post and comment.

I recognize that a lot of my fellow developers have built their own custom installation scripts to take care of this, but since the way I do things is constantly evolving, I always do a manual installation, and having to delete all of the sample stuff is an extra step I wish I didn’t need to do!

A simple checkbox on the installation screen to the effect of «Skip loading sample content and plugins» would work.

As to the matter of this plugin serving a purpose for new developers to learn how to work with a plugin… How many developers are actually getting their introduction to plugin development this way? What decade are we living in? There is ample documentation online, and this could easily be made available to download as a starter plugin in a tutorial on «Building Your First WordPress Plugin».
